The Federal Government has approved $1.25 million for flood control in Trion.

This week’s Summerville News reported that the United States Department of Agriculture has agreed to pay for the engineering for a new system of flood control for the Town of Trion.  The whole flood-control project is expected to cost somewhere between $10 and $13 million.

Chattooga County Commissioner Jason Winters told the local paper that the engineers will be looking at ways to improve the levee that’s there now and the possibility of new levees to help control flooding from the Chattooga River in Trion.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture has signed a contract with the Georgia Soil and Water Conservation Commission to administer the federal funds.  The Trion project was one of only 48 multi-year projects approved by the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the only project approved in Georgia.
