The Chattooga County Registrar Office has been busy this week as hundreds of Chattooga County voters have turned out to vote early in the Republican Runoff election. Voters are choosing candidates for the Chattooga County Commissioner’s race and Probate Judge.
Yesterday, several county offices were closed after two county employees, including Magistrate Judge Tracy Maddux, tested positive for COVID-19. Commissioner Jason Winters said that the courthouse annex would be closed, but other county offices – including the Registrars Office, would remain open.
Commissioner Winters stated on Friday, “Early voting and the Registrars Office will remain open and operational, but please bring a mask with you to vote. If you don’t have a mask, one will be provided.” On Friday evening, the commissioner told WZQZ News, “To clarify…..masks are NOT required to be worn to early-vote in the Registrars Office. Wearing a mask is strongly encouraged and if you need a mask, one will be provided.”
As of yesterday at close of day, 617 voters had cast their ballots.
