Chattooga County Sheriff Mark Schrader says that a tanker truck overturned on Highway 48 in Menlo shortly after 8 AM this morning. The sheriff said that they believe that the liquid being carried was non-hazardous, but that liquid is freezing on the roadway. Chattooga County Public Works has pulled workers and sent them to the area to assist in the clean up. Commissioner Jason Winters said that the 0 degree temperature is complicating the clean up effort.
UPDATE:
It is believed the tanker truck that overturned in Menlo was carrying latex. We do know that not a lot spilled which is good news. The bad news is with extremely cold temperatures it is complicating clean up efforts. At 9:30 AM both lanes of Highway 48 were open. Sheriff Schrader said that the road may need to be closed later to upright the vehicle after the tanker is emptied.

Menlo Fire officials say that the substance on the tanker truck that overturned in Menlo was latex. However, they are waiting on a truck from Chattanooga to offload the load. When the truck is up-righted the road may have to be close briefly.

Officials in Menlo say that they are still waiting on a truck from Chattanooga in order to unload the tanker truck that overturned in Menlo earlier today. Hazmat Crews from Dalton are on the scene of the accident along with the Menlo Fire Department and Chattooga County Sheriff's Department.
