In neighboring Cherokee County, Alabama there have been several reports of individuals showing up at homes then offering to pave the driveway at a so-called “bargain rate”, the story is basically the same as always, with the driver of the truck claiming that they’ve just finished a paving job nearby and they have some mix left-over, so they’re willing to let it go cheap.

This same con game has hit Cherokee County before – after finishing the substandard paving job the con artist then hits the homeowner with a huge bill, totally unlike anything that was discussed prior to the work being finished; and in some cases the homeowners have even signed paperwork without reading the fine print – leading to the scam artist threatening to sue for the money.

There have been varying reports of the type of vehicle being used around the county, with men making the paving offer: a white Dodge pickup, a white Ford pickup and in one instance an orange truck.

None of the vehicles had any signs indicating a company name of any sort and one description of a driver was a white male with dark hair in his late 40’s to early 50’s.

If anyone approaches you about paving your driveway under such circumstances turn them down and turn them in.

Attempt to get a tag number – and provide law enforcement with a description of the vehicle, and the driver.

Report any such activity to the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office by calling (256) 927-3365.
