Georgia motorists are experiencing a welcome, albeit modest, reprieve at the gas pump. The average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline has dipped slightly over the past weekend, mirroring a national trend of steady fuel supply and a cooling demand as the seasons change.

As of Monday, the statewide average for regular unleaded stands at a respectable $2.87 per gallon. While this figure can fluctuate daily, the recent downward trend offers a bit of relief to Georgians.

Compared to recent benchmarks, the current average represents a 2-cent decrease from last week and a 3-cent drop from the previous month. However, drivers are still paying more than they were at this time last year, with prices remaining 16 cents higher than this time in 2022.

For drivers filling up a standard 15-gallon tank, this translates to an approximate cost of $43.05, about 50 cents less than they would have paid just a month ago.

“It’s nice to see prices finally moving in the right direction,” said Montrae Waiters, spokeswoman for AAA-The Auto Club Group. “With cooler weather settling in and demand slowing down, Georgia drivers are getting a little break at the pump just in time for fall festivities.”

This localized trend is part of a broader national pattern. The national average for a gallon of regular gasoline has also seen a decline, currently sitting at $3.08, down from the previous week. According to the Energy Information Administration, a significant factor contributing to this decrease is a four-month low in gasoline demand.

With the third quarter of 2025 – a typo in the original text, likely meant to be 2023 – wrapping up with increased fuel inventories and the seasonal transition from summer-grade to winter-grade gasoline, experts suggest that prices at the pump could potentially see further declines in the coming weeks. This continued easing of prices offers a small financial boost as Georgians embrace the autumn season.

The most expensive metro markets in Georgia are Savannah ($3.01), Hinesville-Fort Stewart ($3.00), and Macon ($2.91).

The least expensive metro markets in Georgia are Dalton ($2.78), Rome ($2.76), and Catoosa-Dade-Walker ($2.73).
