Many people have been wandering just how long the periodical cicadas will be hanging around….well, if you find their noise annoying you won’t have to put up with them much longer according to University of Georgia Entomologist N.C. Hinkle.

According to Professor Hinkle, the "Great Southern Brood" of periodical cicadas should all die off by Memorial Day.  The periodical cicadas lay their eggs, which won’t emerge for another 13 years, and then die.

Chattooga County has had many of the periodical cicadas, but around 100 counties in Georgia have not reported any periodical cincada activity.
