The political season is about to heat up across the Peach State and here in Chattooga County.  In Georgia, there are two separate primaries held for both major political parties.  The first will be the Presidential Preference Primary in March and the next will be the General Primary Election in May.

Georgia was a battleground state in the 2020 Presidential Election and there is no doubt that millions of dollars will be spent by both major political parties to try to win Georgia voters throughout the year.  The Presidential Preference Primary will be held Tuesday, March 12, 2024.  The deadline to register to vote in the 2024 Presidential Preference Primary is February 12, 2024.

The General Primary Election will be for all other political offices which include U.S. Representative, U.S. Senators and local races.   It will be held on Tuesday, May 21, 2024.

So far, the only contested race that has shaped up will be on the Republican ticket as incumbent Chattooga County Commissioner Blake Elsberry faces a challenge from local farmer and businessman Andy Allen.  However, potential candidates have until the week of March 4, 2024 to decide if they want to run.  That’s when qualifying will take place.
