A recent structure fire in Lyerly may have been arson.
 
According to the report from the Chattooga County Sheriff's office when officers arrived at the fire, January 24 ,at 299 Hammond Street, Lyerly, the structure was engulfed in flames.
 
The Sheriff's Department report states that the Lyerly night shift security guard said he patrolled the area about 30 minutes before the fire started and every thing was normal. He said an unknown woman notified him of the fire. The residence reportedly has been vacant for some time, according to the guard. It is not officially known at this time if the home was intentionally set on fire or if it was accidental. The incident is under investigation.
