Rome police reported shooting a raccoon that appeared rabid at the corner of East 12th Street and Crane Street.

According to reports:

Officers were flagged down about 5:50 p.m. Saturday by a pedestrian who said the raccoon tried to attack him.

After seeing the animal looked weak, injured and possibly rabid — and that it was wandering around a populated area — an officer shot it in a vacant lot and put the body in a Dumpster.
