October marks Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Atrium Health Floyd and Harbin Clinic are uniting to spread a vital message: “There’s power in knowing.” Both healthcare providers are urging women across the region to prioritize their annual mammograms as the most effective tool in the fight against breast cancer.

Pink, the nationally recognized color for breast cancer awareness, is already prominently displayed throughout the community. Atrium Health Floyd’s iconic “Paper Dolls” have popped up in various locations, serving as powerful symbols of hope, unity, and knowledge. Each cutout represents a cherished mom, sister, wife, daughter, or friend, underscoring the personal impact of breast cancer and the importance of proactive health measures.

To further reinforce this message, complimentary magnets displaying images of these inspiring dolls will be available on “Pink Day,” Tuesday, October 10th, from 8-10 AM, at the Chattooga Emergency Department in Trion. Additional distribution points include locations in Rome, Cedartown, and Centre, Alabama, ensuring wide accessibility for the community.

Aimee Griffin, vice president of Professional Services at Atrium Health Floyd and former director of The Breast Center at Floyd, underscored the critical role of these screenings. “A mammogram is undeniably the best tool to detect breast cancer,” Griffin stated. “The survival rate for breast cancer increases when it is detected early, like many other cancers. That is why an annual mammogram can be such a lifesaver.”

Increasing access to these crucial screenings, Atrium Health Floyd’s Mobile Mammography Coach will be making a number of stops throughout the month. Residents of Chattooga County can utilize the coach at Atrium Health Floyd Primary Care in Summerville on October 13th from 8:30 AM until 4 PM and again on October 27th from 8:30 AM until 4 PM.
