Chattooga County residents who get their power from North Georgia EMC will see an increase in their power bills in August.  That’s after TVA announced that they will increase the power rates by almost a full penny per kilowatt hour next month.

TVA had already raised their rates a penny a kilowatt hour from June to July of this year.

That means for a North Georgia EMC member who uses about 1,500 kWh of energy will see an extra $15 on their August bill. This estimate does not account for any increase in energy usage, so the total increase on August bills could be higher if more energy is consumed.

100% of this charge goes to TVA and is used to cover the fluctuating cost of the fuel sources used to generate electricity at TVA power plants. The fuel charge has almost doubled over the last three months.

NGEMC is contractually required to purchase 100% of its power from TVA.
