Chattooga County property owners normally have taxes due in December, but because of the overwhelming number of property tax appeals in 2023, the due date for property taxes was pushed out to March 1, 2024.
Tax Commissioner Joy Hampton is reminding tax payers about the due date for those who got their tax bills in December of 2023 or January of this year. Hampton says, “It’s easy to forget when things are off the normal schedule, so I wanted to send out a quick reminder of just how fast this year is passing us by.
Hampton says that the Chattooga County Tax Assessors Office is working hard to juggle finishing up appeals and get things in order for this year and asks for patience from the over 1,000 property owners whose property is still under appeal. Tax Commissioner Hampton says that even if your tax bill is under appeal, you can be making payments on the bill “to lessen the load when it comes due”.
The Chattooga County Tax Commissioner’s Office is open from 7:30 AM to 5:30 PM Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday and is closed on Wednesdays.
