Chattooga County is planning to apply to the Georgia Department of Community Affairs for a Community Development Block Grant of up to $500,000 for installation of water lines on State Line Road and Gilreath Mill Road at Cloudland.  Community Development Block Grants are used primarily to benefit low to moderate income residents.   Commissioner Jason Winters says that the water project would be funded by grants that could possibly total $1 Million and the balance of the project, around $400,000 would be a 0% interest loan.  The water project would take the water lines currently on Stateline Road all the way to the Walker County Line on Gilreath Mill Road.  Winters said that the water service could possibly serve four or five customers in Walker County as well.  The water line would extend up Gilreath Mill Road where it turns into High Road in Walker County. A public meeting will be held at Cloudland Presbyterian Church this coming Tuesday, March 31st at 6:30 P.M.  Many residents in the area have already received surveys that should be completed and turned in at the meeting, or residents can send the completed surveys to the commissioner’s office.
