Changes are coming to Chattooga County Public Works according to County Commissioner Jason Winters.  Winters told AM 1180 that current Public Works Director Lamar Canada would be in charge of sanitation and transportation along with code enforcement and that his former political rival Joe Reed would be in charge of Roads and Bridges.

Winters has faced some criticism regarding hiring Reed and paying him the same salary as Canada.  The commissioner points out that since 2008 the Chattooga County Public Works Department has lost eight employees who have not been replaced and that even with the hiring of Joe Reed the public works payroll will still be less than it was four years ago when Winters took office.

Commissioner Winters said that Reed would bring a good deal of knowledge and experience to the job and that the move will allow Canada to focus on other areas that need attention.   Joe Reed was Public Works Director in Chattooga County for sixteen years.

Reed is expected to begin work sometime around the first week of January.
