The Chattooga & Chickamauga Railroad is expected to begin operation of passenger trains again soon in Chattooga County.  The plans are to repair the railroad as far as Lyerly to allow for passenger trains.

Last year the passenger trains didn’t run because of damage to the railroad from the April Flood that left much of the railroad in poor condition.  The lack of passenger trains has an affect on tourism in Chattooga County – which translates into a lack of tourist dollars being spent.

Walker County has requested money for repairs to the Chattooga Chickamauga Railroad in it’s part of the fifteen county Transportation Special Local Option Sales Tax (TSPLOST) package that will be reviewed in August and put before voters on an upcoming ballot.

The Chattooga & Chickamauga railroad also serves several industries between Chattanooga and Chattooga County.
