A regional election meeting was hosted Thursday in Chattooga County. The meeting was held at Pop’s Restaurant from 11 AM until 2 PM. The meeting was jointly sponsored by Chattooga and Walker Counties’ election officials. There were thirty three election officials from around Northwest Georgia attending the meeting.
Chattooga County Election Superintendent Jon Payne said that the meeting has been held for the past two years and meets at a different location each month. Participation is voluntary and election officials are able to share ideas and find out what works in different location and improve the elections process. Payne said that he was "exicted to have so many colleagues to show up" and that there were a lot of positive comments about the beauty of Chattooga County and praise for the people of the county.
Chattooga County Commissioner Jason Winters and Walker County Commissioner Bebe Heiskel and Denise Klopton from U.S. Senator Johnny Isaakson’s office were guests at the meeting. The speaker was Ann Hicks, Director of Elections for the office of the Secretary of State, Brian Kemp. She spoke about new legislation, questions on procedures, various problems and conerns of the different counties.
Election officials from Heard, Meriweather, Cowetta, Fayette, Douglas, Carroll, Paulding, Polk, Floyd, Gordon, Walker and Chattooga Counties were in Summerville for the meeting.
