The City of Menlo will be conducting a smoke test of the sanitary sewer lines next week, starting on February 21, 2022.

The purpose of the test is to locate places where excess water is entering the sewer system during a rain event.

In the days prior to the testing, please make sure to run water in all sinks, tubs and floor drains, especially if they are not frequently used in order to fill the “P-traps”.

Be advised that you may see smoke coming from the sewer vents of your your buildings and this is normal during the smoke testing in your area.  There should not be any smoke inside the buildings.  If smoke does enter, it indicates a problem with your plumbing inside.  Run water to flush the drain lines to clear the smoke.

Be advised, the smoke itself is NOT HARMFUL.

Smoke will also be visible in streets and yards along the sewer lines right-of-ways.

If you have any questions, please call Menlo City Hall at 706-862-2440.
