U.S Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene, who represents Chattooga and surrounding counties in Northwest Georgia in the U.S. House of Representatives, called Kwanza a “fake religion” in a tweet on Monday.
Kwanza, which is an annual secular celebration by many African Americans, is not a religious celebration and does not have any religious connotations. Kwanza lasts for seven days and is a holiday festival created in 1966 as a way to allow Black people worldwide of all faiths to celebrate their common African roots.

Greene tweeted the message in response to a tweet from College Republicans that simply said, “Happy Kwanza.”
