A $10.3 million public-private partnership between Chattooga County and fiber provider Windstream will provide broadband access to 3,400 addresses in the county.  This week, U.S. Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene praised the partnership, even though she voted against the funding that allows the project to happen.

The partnership includes $3.1 million from the Coronavirus State and Local Fiscal Recovery Funds Program, which is part of the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA). Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene voted against the ARPA.  In fact, when the plan was receiving its final vote in Congress, Rep. Greene attempted a motion to adjourn Congress to prevent the passage of the bill.

“I applaud Kinetic and Chattooga County for investing together, in partnership, so that some 3,400 homes and businesses in this great county benefit from fiber broadband,” U.S. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Rome, said in a statement prepared for a town hall meeting in Chattooga County this week.

Windstream plans to invest $7.2 million and cover cost overruns.  Chattooga County will kick in around $3 million from ARPA funds the county has received.

Work on the project is expected to be completed next year, according to the press release.
