A report released yesterday by the National Center for Education Statistics finds that 19% of Chattooga County Adults lack basic literacy skills.  Nationally the figure is around 14.5% of adults that lack Basic English literacy skills.  The data is gathered every 10 years to estimate the number of adults lacking Basic English skills.  Other counties in our area are as follows: Floyd County, 17%, Bartow County 13%, Gordon County 19%, Polk County 22%, Catoosa County 12%, Walker County 15%, Cherokee County, Alabama 16%, and DeKalb County, AL 18%.
