State Representative Barbara Massey Reece (D-Menlo) has been appointed to Chair the House Democratic Caucus Public Safety Policy Committee. The committee is charged with policy development of the Caucus concerning all matters related to public safety which includes gun legislation, the State Patrol, Department of Corrections and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. State Representative Mike Glanton (D-Clayton Co.), a former resident of Chattattoga County, was named Vice-Chair of the Committee.
"I have great respect for our law enforcement community," said Rep. Reece. "I am honored to serve as Chair of the Public Safety Policy Committee and look forward to working with other members to support the public safety community in the state of Georgia."
Representative Reece was also elected Secretary of the Rural Caucus which is the largest bi-partisan group at the Capitol. They will be tracking all legislation applicable to rural areas such as seat belt, gun and tax bills.
As a member of the House Education Committee for ten years and a former Vice-Chair, Rep. Reece has also been re-appointed Vice-Chair of the Academic Support Sub-Committee by House Education Committee Chairman Brooks Coleman (R-Gwinnett). Private school voucher legislation is expected from the Senate this year and will be debated in that committee.
Besides serving on the House Education Committee, Reece, a lawmaker since 1999, is a member of the Education, House Science and Technology and House Legislative and Congressional Reapportionment committees.
