State Representative Barbara Massey Reece (D- Menlo) has been re-assigned to the education committee in the Georgia House. Reece, who’s carreer before going into politics was a public school teacher, has been serving on the education committee for the past 12 years.
Reece told AM 1180 Chattooga County Radio that the committee is looking at bills that would deal with class size and spending. Money is sure to be tight in this year’s budget as the state faces another massive round of budget cuts.
Reece said that a bill that would make class size flexible is of particular interest to many local school systems. She said that school systems want the opportunity to be flexible when it comes to class size in order to cut down on costs – especially when the class size is only one or two students over what is currently required.
The legislature will re-convene on Tuesday of this week and is expected to take up the Governor’s budget proposals.
