The Chattooga County Republican Party gave their nod of approval to a candidate for sheriff who was arrested last year after cussing out a bus driver in front of children.  Seventy-year-old Edwin Raughton of Summerville was arrested in April of last year after he was caught on video using foul language around children on a school bus.  Raughton was one of several candidates who appeared before a select committee of the local Republican Party to determine if they upheld “Republican values”.

The incident followed a minor accident at Sunset Drive and Cooper Heights with a Chattooga County School bus on Thursday of last week.  The bus had backed into a vehicle driven by the suspect, and while the suspect was speaking with the school bus driver he began to curse, using the “F” word with children present.  The bus driver also said that the suspect also threatened to use a gun, telling the bus driver “You better be bullet proof” – which was confirmed in the recording.  Edwin Lee Raughton was arrested and booked into the Chattooga County Jail on charges of disorderly conduct.
