With the possibility of water raising as a result of the heavy rain across North Georgia some residents in Chattooga County will want to keep an eye out this afternoon and this evening.  The National Weather Service says that the Chattooga River should crest tonight around midnight at seventeen feet.

Chattooga County Roads and Bridges Director Joe Reed said that residents in the area of Lyerly Dam and Talliaferro Road should be prepared in case roads or bridges need to be shut down later tonight.

The National Weather Service said that the river could remain around 17 feet for three to four hours tonight, which would mean it wouldn't begin to fall until around 4 AM Wednesday morning.

UPDATE:

At 2 PM Chattooga County Roads and Bridges Director Joe Reed told AM 1180 that the county was closing Lyerly Dam Road due to rising water.
