A string of unexplainable fires has prompted the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Department to seek the help of local residents in obtaining any information that might lead to the arrest of a potential arsonist.
AM 1180 Chattooga County Radio News spoke with Sheriff Ralph Kellett on Wednesday who said that a reward of up to $10,000 is offered by Insurance Commissioner John Oxendine’s office to anyone that might have information about any arson fire in the county.
The latest unexplainable fire was at a barn off the Lyerly Dam Road. According to reports, the barn was on fire and caused a large area of brush to burn. Last week an abandoned trailer on Josh Ward Road burned.
Residents with any information are being urged to call the Sheriff’s Department and speak with an investigator.
