The Chattooga County Library is hosting the Georgia River of Words exhibit now until October 19.  The River of Words is an international poetry and art project designed to nurture respect and understanding of the natural world.  Students in grades kindergarten through 12th are first encouraged to do a watershed study and learn their "ecological address".  They practice their observational skills and learn language and systems associated with the area they are studying.  When they are through the students express the experience through poetry and art.

The poetry and art created from these watershed experiences can then be entered into a national River of Words competition.  Winners are chosen first at the national level, then those entries form Georgia are sent back to be judged at the state level.  The winning Georgia state and national entries are displayed in a traveling exhibit.  This stunning exhibit of the children's artwork and poetry is available for viewing during the Chattooga County Library's open hours until October 19.
