A small portion of Highway 68 in Gaylesville was blocked for an extended period of time Monday afternoon as firefighters worked to contain a fuel spill from an 18-wheeler which belonged to ‘All-4-One Transport’ out of Dalton, Georgia.
The mishap occurred shortly before 1:00pm, just north of the Gaylesville four-way stop.
The driver of the truck told authorities, that both of the straps holding the fuel tank on the vehicle broke, causing him to drag the tank for a short distance.
Approximately 100 gallons of diesel fuel was spilled onto the roadway – fortunately there was an extremely quick response by members of the Gaylesville Fire Department, as they were able to contain the spillage before it made it into a nearby drainage ditch.
Cherokee County EMA Director Beverly Daniel was also called to the scene; meanwhile, firefighters continued to re-route traffic while finishing the clean-up operation.
