
Robert Wayne “Pete” Denson, a respected community leader, former Chattooga County Commissioner, member of the Chattooga County Young Farmers, and co-founder of the Chattooga Shrine Club, passed away Monday, August 4, 2025, at his residence in Summerville, surrounded by his loving family. He was 83 years old.
Mr. Denson served the public as Chattooga County’s Sole Commissioner, a role in which he was deeply committed to the area’s development and well-being. Beyond his public service, he was a self-employed farmer and had retired from Combined Auction Realty.
His commitment to civic organizations was extensive. Mr. Denson was a proud member of the Chattooga Lodge #704, F&AM, and was instrumental in the establishment and growth of the Chattooga Shrine Club, which he co-founded. He was also a member of the Young Farmer’s Association and a faithful member of the New Antioch Baptist Church.
Funeral services for Mr. Denson will be held at 12:00 Noon on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel. Reverend Harold Helton and his granddaughter, Courtney Parris, will officiate. Interment with graveside Masonic rites will follow at Summerville Cemetery.
The family will receive friends this evening, from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. at Mason Funeral Home, where Mr. Denson will lie in state.
