A thirty-three-year-old Rock Spring man was charged with DUI in Chattooga County recently after he was seen changing lanes without a signal and nearly striking another vehicle. A Chattooga County Sheriff’s Deputy observed the improper lane change and performed a traffic stop near the Trion Water Treatment plant on Highway 27.  The driver told the deputy that he was not driving recklessly and said he was “driving normal like everyone else”.   The deputy smelled the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle and could smell “a strong odor of alcohol” coming from the driver.

The driver said that he had picked up food at Jefferson’s in Summerville and was taking it to his wife and kids.  He then told the deputy he had just came from Stonebridge Golf Course in Calhoun.  The deputy reminded the driver that Stonebridge is in Rome, not Calhoun.  The driver then told the deputy that “Rome and Calhoun are the same thing.”

After a search of the vehicle, the deputy found a marijuana blunt and beer inside the vehicle.  The driver failed three field-sobriety tests.

Adam Elijah Boggs was arrested and taken to the Chattooga County Jail on charges of DUI, failure to maintain single lane and reckless driving.
