Protesters took to the streets across Georgia over the last several days to voice their opinion of the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, including a small group who gathered at the Chattooga County Courthouse steps on Sunday this week.

The protesters in Summerville held signs saying “My body – My choice”.  Protests have been held over the past several days in towns and cities across the state.  A large sit-in was reported in Augusta, Georgia on Independence Day.  Other protests were held in Athens, Fulton County and Savannah.

Georgia’s “Heartbeat Bill” outlaws the procedure when a cardiac activity is detected in a human embryo at around six weeks. Georgia Governor Brian Kemp signed the bill into law, but it’s been tied up in courts.

Pro-life advocates have pushed for Kemp to call a special legislative session to pass more restrictions.

Last fall, the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Judicial Circuit determined it could not rule on the Georgia law until after the Supreme Court made a decision regarding  a similar Mississippi’s law.
