A Rome man was in jail Wednesday without bond after he accidentally shot a woman while handling a gun earlier that afternoon.
Devon Lavan Mc¬Dougald, age 25, was arrested and charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and reckless conduct.
McDougald told police he was sitting in the back of a car in a driveway on Elliot Drive, when the gun accidentally fired, hitting the woman who was sitting in the front seat of the car.
The .38 caliber bullet went straight through the woman, and her injury was not considered to be life threatening.
