On Monday, a Floyd County Superior Court Judge denied bond for a twenty-one-year-old Rome man accused of killing his father’s girlfriend.  Ellis Geoffery Marrs is accused of killing fifty-one-year-old Iris Dail Edwards earlier this month.

Marrs was apparently attempting to break up a domestic dispute when the killing happened.  Police reports say that alcohol was involved in the domestic incident.  Marrs’ attorney says that Marrs acted in self defense.

Police say when they arrived, Ellis Marrs identified himself and told the responding officer he had “just shot someone.” The gun had been placed on top of a grill in the backyard with the magazine ejected. Marrs was arrested and is charged with felony murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.

The judge at yesterday’s bond hearing says he views Marrs as a flight risk.
