We are quickly approaching the Holiday Season and Scammers are up to their old tricks in new and creative ways.

Rome Police say that they have received phone calls inquiring about making donations to the American Federation Police for Concerned Citizens and the National Association of Chiefs for Families of Disabled. It appears that these “organizations” are made up. The individual will contact you stating that they are from a charitable organization and attempt to engage you in a conversation and after you start talking to them they will ask if you would like to make a donation by debit or credit card. DO NOT GIVE YOUR DEBIT/CREDIT CARD INFORMATION TO ANYONE YOU DO NOT TRUST.

While there are worthy causes that you can donate online to; do your research into the organization before donating online.

Rome Police say, “REMEMBER, this is a full time job for these scammers and more often than not when we trace these scams they end up out of the country. Meaning we are extremely limited on what we can do.”
