Police say a Rome man threatened a Floyd County police officer with an opened pocket knife at Redmond Regional Medical Center.

Robert Van Scott, 55, of 115 Lark Spur Lane, is charged with felony aggravated assault on an officer in performance of duties and possession of a knife during commission of certain felonies.

The Floyd County police officer told Scott on Friday he couldn’t leave the hospital. Scott responded by pulling a knife and advancing on the officer, which resulted in the officer pulling his gun.

Scott stopped and tried to hide in his room, but the officer was able to get in and talk Scott into relinquishing his knife.

He was being held without bond Saturday.
