A Rome teenager remains in critical condition after being run over by a Norfolk Southern train on the Fourth of July.

Rome police responded to a call about a person passed out on the railroad tracks near Callahan Street last Thursday morning.  When they arrived, they found the teenager in critical condition.  Both of the teen’s legs had been severed by the passing train.  It is not clear from police reports as to why the teen was there or if there were any other conditions that caused the teen to be on the tracks when the train came through.

Police administered first aid until EMT’s could arrive.  The teen was then transported to a Rome hospital.  The gender and age of the teen was not released by police.

The incident remains under investigation by Rome and Floyd County Police and investigators with Norfolk Southern Railroad.
