The Rome Tennis Center at Berry College (RTCBC) in Rome, Georgia, has once again been recognized for its excellence, receiving a prestigious USTA Outstanding Facility Award. This marks the second time the center has earned this national honor, having previously been celebrated in 2019.

The RTCBC was among 45 facilities nationwide to be lauded in the USTA’s annual program, which acknowledges top-tier construction and/or renovation of tennis facilities across the country. All 2025 award recipients were honored this week at an awards reception held at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York, coinciding with activities surrounding the US Open.

As one of the largest tennis complexes in the United States, RTCBC boasts an impressive 51 outdoor courts and 6 indoor courts. This extensive setup allows the center to host a diverse array of events throughout most weekends of the year, from local junior tournaments to national and professional competitions. Operated by Cliff Drysdale Tennis, the facility also offers comprehensive daily programming, including junior development, beginner classes, leagues, and advanced clinics tailored for all ages and skill levels.

Since its initial USTA award in 2019, RTCBC has continued to invest in significant improvements. These enhancements include the addition of a “Top Spin Terrace” viewing deck, new tennis nets and patio furniture, and upgraded wireless capabilities to support vendors and live streaming services. A major addition in 2021 was the integration of a Fairfield Inn and Suites directly on the property, providing convenient, direct access for coaches, players, and guests.

Theodore Loehrke, Managing Director, Section Partnerships, USTA, praised the center’s impact. “Outstanding tennis facilities like Rome Tennis Center at Berry College help us to grow the game at the grassroots level, and we are proud to recognize them for their ongoing impact on the sport of tennis,” said Loehrke. “The great work of RTCBC continues to support our shared mission of growing tennis to inspire healthier people and communities everywhere.”

Facilities nominated for the award are judged on a comprehensive set of criteria, including overall layout and adaptation to the site, excellence of court surface and lights, ease of maintenance, accommodations for players, spectators and press/officials, aesthetics, graphics, amenities (such as casual seating, food services and social areas), and active participation in grassroots tennis programs.

Awards are distributed across various categories, including Public Courts (small and large centers), Private Facilities (small and large, offering USTA and public programming), and Educational Institutions. This year also saw the introduction of an Innovation category. All 2025 award winners receive a wall plaque and an all-weather sign for display at their facility.
