Area residents are being urged to be careful of scam artists that would take advantage of people in these tough economic times.  A resident of Centre, Alabama was recently approached by individuals claiming that they had left-over asphalt from a previous job and offered to pave a drive-way.  The scam artists then presented the resident with a bill for $12,000 for a job that should have only cost around $1,000.00 Centre Police Chief Val Courtney said apparently no price was actually quoted and agreed on before the job was done.  Unfortunately the resident paid the bill.

Residents are urged not to be a victim of such unscrupulous business practices – always know or look into the background of any individual or company before allowing any work to be done.  If you suspect a scam – artist contact law enforcement officials
