A phone scam was reported to Chattooga County Sheriff Deputies earlier this week.
On Monday February 8th, 2021 Chattooga County Sheriff Deputies spoke with Mary Stokes who advised that she received a phone call from someone pretending to be an officer. Stokes told officers that the caller told her that her credit card and social security number had been used fraudulently to rent a car and that she needed to provide
her card number for confirmation. Stokes gave the caller her Citi Master Card number. After giving the card number to the caller, Stokes then called her credit card company who advised her to make a report. The card in question was also canceled.
