An upcoming rock concert at Chattooga High School was discussed at the Thursday night board meeting of the Chattooga County Board of Education, with one school board member expressing concern about the event.

The concert is a student-lead event as part of the “Reach and Teach” program at the high school.  Students have been working for several weeks to put on the concert and have divided into committees to schedule, prepare the school and handle the finances,  in order to bring the Velcro Pygmies in concert to the high school. “Rockin’ the War Lodge” will be May 17th and will be free to current CHS students.

At the board meeting on Thursday, board of education member Tiffany Lawrence expressed concern that the show might not be suitable for all students.  School Supt. Jared Hosmer said that the high school will send home permission slips for students to have parents or guardians to sign for students to attend the concert.  Students who do not attend the concert will have an alternate activity.

The “Reach and Teach” program is a nationwide program that brings together the entertainment industry with local high school students.  According to the program’s web site, the initiative is “providing passion and confidence to all students through the unconventional collaboration of entertainment and education”.
