The annual Boy Scout's "Scouting for Food" event, recently held across several Northwest Georgia communities, was a huge success with Scouts and volunteers collecting 5,372 items throughout Chattooga, Floyd and Polk counties.

23 scout units participated this year with 319 scouts, 146 leaders, 120 adult volunteers and 75 siblings collecting and delivering food items.

That's a total of 660 volunteers and over 1,428 hours of service.

"Scouting for Food" takes place over two consecutive weekends in February – traditionally held as a community service event to coincide with the anniversary of the Boys Scouts.

On February 6th, local Scouts distributed door hangers to local neighborhoods to let people know about the food drive. On February 13th those Scouts revisited the neighborhoods and collected bags of canned food, cereal, pasta, peanut butter and other nonperishable items.

The food was then taken to collection sites and delivered to food pantries across the area.
