Law enforcement officials continue to comb the Spring Creek area in northeastern Chattooga County for two inmates that escaped from Hays State Prison in Pennville this morning.  The alarm from the prison started sounding around 11:45 this morning when the two inmates were discovered missing from the prison.

The two men are believed to still be in the area and law enforcement are concentrating their attention on the area around Spring Creek and going up the ridge.  Chattooga County Sheriffs deputies along with Summerville Police, Department of Corrections and the Georgia State Patrol are participating in the search for the escaped inmates.  A helicopter has been brought in to assist in the search along with the K9 Unit from Hays Prison.  Shortly before 5 PM this evening, law enforcement officials were seen headed towards Taylors Ridge just outside of Summerville.  Department of Corrections along with Sheriff’s Department  Cars were gathered on top of the ridge.

The inmates have been described as white males, one in their 40’s and the other in their 50’s.  If you have any information you should immediately contact 911 or the Chattooga County Sheriffs Department.
