Yesterday, State Senator Colton Moore released the following statement celebrating the pass of Senate Resolution 543, a measure that supports increased protections for America’s borders:

The resolution is largely symbolic and was passed along party lines.  Critics of the resolution say it is an election-year ploy by Georgia Senate Republicans to condemn U.S. President Joe Biden’s lack of action on the southern border – which is roughly 800 miles from Georgia.

The sponsor of the bill, Senate Majority Leader Steve Gooch, R-Dahlonega, said the resolution sends a “strong message” to Congress and the White House that something must be done to stop illegal immigration. “You may think, ‘Now, that’s a federal issue, we really don’t have any business here talking about that today,’ ” said Gooch, “We’re not going to pass a bill today that’s going to move the needle in the large way, but what we are going to do today is we’re going to take a position on this issue.”

Senator Moore said Wednesday:

“I am proud to announce that the Georgia Senate has officially passed Senate Resolution 543, a measure that I wholeheartedly support.

As your representative, I have been vocal about the illegal invasion and its impact on Northwest Georgia. The stories from my constituents about the strain on local schools and taxpayers are deeply concerning, and the federal and state governments have not provided any support to address this issue.

The time for action is now.

The illegal invasion is claiming thousands of lives. The passage of SR543 is a significant step towards securing our nation’s borders and stopping the deadly flow of drugs and violent criminals into Georgia. It is a matter of fairness and justice to ensure that taxpayers in Northwest Georgia are not forced to foot the bill.

I am proud to have been a part of this effort and will continue to work tirelessly to protect the people of Georgia from the illegal invasion.”

Senator Moore did not explain how the passage of the resolution would be a ” significant step towards securing our nation’s borders and stopping the deadly flow of drugs and violent criminals”.
