WZQZ News reported on Thursday of this past week that State Senator Colton Moore, who represents Chattooga and surrounding counties in Northwest Georgia, has been suspended by his Republican colleagues in the Georgia Senate.  The suspension doesn’t affect Moore’s seat in the legislature, but it may affect how much legislation the twenty-nine-year-old senator is able to get passed in the upcoming legislative session.

Moore was the most prominent backer of a special session to impeach and remove Willis or defund her office, winning Trump’s endorsement. Kemp denounced the call as “some grifter scam” to raise campaign contributions for Moore, in a news conference that was unusually impassioned for the buttoned-up Kemp.

Kemp called the push “political theater that only inflames the emotions of the moment,” saying a special session “would ignore current Georgia law and directly interfere with the proceedings of a separate but equal branch of government.” Kemp said he didn’t think Willis had done anything to merit removal.

Moore’s alienation of his fellow-Republicans seems to be popular with some local GOP members who took to social media to say that Moore was doing his job and approved of his calls for a special session.  But there was never any real chance of that happening as it would require backing by all Republicans and some Democrats in the Georgia Senate, since the GOP doesn’t have a 60% majority.

Now, the senator will find it increasingly difficult to operate outside of the Republican caucus in the Georgia Senate in introducing legislation and that legislation making its way to the Senate floor.
