Who will represent Northwest Georgia in the Georgia Senate will be determined in the May Republican Primary.  No Democrat has qualified and only two Republican candidates are seeking the seat that has been held for the past twenty-plus years by retiring Senator Jeff Mullis.

Mullis was often cited as being one of the most powerful legislators in the General Assembly and served as the chairman of the powerful rules committee.  Mullis cited health reasons and spending more time in other endeavors as the reason for his decision not to run for another term.

The two Republicans seeking Mullis’ seat have been highlighting their differences.

Steve Henry is a former Catoosa County Commissioner and has been endorsed by Senator Mullis.  Henry has stated his conservative credentials and laid out his plan to continue the work that Senator Mullis has done over the past two decades.  His challenger is Colton Moore from Dade County.

Moore was elected to represent Georgia’s 1st House District in the Georgia State House Representative from January 14, 2019 to January 14, 2021. At twenty-four-years-old he was the youngest elected official ever from Dade County, Georgia.  Moore challenged Mullis in the GOP Primary two years ago but came up second in a three-way race.  Moore called Mullis “shady” and said he wasn’t a “team player” when he challenged the powerful senator in 2020.

Republican Primary voters will go to the polls on May 24th to decide between Henry and Moore.
