This week, State Senator Chuck Hufstetler (R-Rome) was presented with an award from the Georgia Council on Aging for preventing a bill from becoming law in Georgia that would have outlawed video camera’s – or “Granny Cams” in nursing homes.

Hufstetler, who represents a portion of Floyd and Chattooga Counties in the Georgia Senate, was vocal in his opposition to House Bill 605 that would have made the use of cameras placed in nursing homes by family members illegal.

The Georgia Gerontology Society presented Hufstetler with the 2021 David Levine Award on Tuesday.  Representatives from the Georgia Council on Aging and the AARP were also on hand to express their appreciation to Senator Hufstetler for his leadership in defeating the bill.

Kathy Floyd, executive director of the Georgia Council on Aging, said Hufstetler’s move was “an incredibly hard-fought win” against a politically connected industry.
