Chattooga County John Everett is beginning to clean out his office in anticipation of leaving office in January. A visit to Everett's office revealed that a good bit of the furniture is gone and he's taking stuff off the walls. Everett said he is considering several job options and is seriously considering a career that does not involve public safety or law enforcement. He said he wants to be able to come home after a day’s work and spend evenings and weekends with his family. Everett leaves office Dec. 31. He was beat in the runoff in August by Trion Police Officer Mark Schrader, a Democrat. In November, Schrader will go up against Republican challenger and former Chattooga County Sheriff's Deputy James Dawson. Everett says rumors that he has quit the Sheriff's Department already are untrue. He says he intends to stay in office until January 1.
