The Chattooga County Sheriff's Office has taken a huge step forward in regard to utilizing the latest technology; Sheriff Mark Schrader has announced that his office has recently purchased a total of 25 new body-cameras, and full-time patrol deputies are being outfitted with the new devices first, while investigators, student resource officers and jail personnel will likely follow suit.

Those body-cams came with a price tag of around $300 each, fortunately the Lookout Mountain Drug Task Force was able to provide $5,000 toward the purchase price through funds derived from various drug cases and seizures, with the sheriff kicking in the remainder of the money in the same manner.

Schrader said he carefully considered how the money would be spent, choosing to go with the body cameras as opposed to in-car units, which are much more expensive:

Sheriff Schrader also noted that extensive training has been undertaken by all those deputies who are being issued the new body-cams.and feels comfortable the video footage obtained through the use of these devices will be extremely valuable in court, leaving no doubt as to what actually occurred during the call.
