It happens all the time, but people continue to fall for it.  We are talking about Social Security scams.

The Social Security Administration has some very simple advice for you if you are contacted by someone claiming to be with the Social Security Administration and they ask you for your social security number – HANG UP!  The government agency will never call you on the phone and ask you for your personal information.  Of course, you should never send money to anyone that is claiming to be from the government and asking for your social security number.

Over the weekend, Chattooga County Sheriff Mark Schrader posted the same warning he posted last fall saying, “We have been getting many calls involving scammers pretending to be either with social security or investigating you regarding your social security number. Please, Please, Please DO NOT give out your social security number to ANYONE on the telephone. Social Security Administration will not call you by phone and ask for your number.”
