Sheriff John Everett wants to advise the public of the following:
Extreme caution advised if traveling today and tonight. Most roads likely have ice / black ice. Necessary travel only!
There are many icy patches on the roadways – especially on bridges, overpasses and shadowy / shielded areas. Main roads and highways are mostly passable. Secondary and side roads have many slick spots. Motorists are urged to stay home and only travel as necessary.
Motorists are urged to slow down and use extreme caution if they must venture out. Please make sure your vehicle is fueled up and that you carry a charged cell phone, flashlight and a blanket with you if you do venture out. These items will be very helpful in the event of an accident or an emergency.
DOT and Public Works are working to keep the roads passable, but it is a daunting task. Any thawing or melting of the ice that occurs today is likely to freeze again overnight. Again, please exercise extreme caution if you must venture out. Stay safe and warm!
