The Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a check that a man attempted to cash at a local convenience store last week.

According to a report released late last week, a clerk at the GB&T Food Mart in Trion said that a man came in and tried to cash a $521.02 check from Trion Scrap Metal.  The clerk said that man presented the check to the clerk and asked it to be cashed, but the teller noticed that the check was different from other checks she had cashed from Trion Scrap Metal.  The store clerk called the owner of Trion Scrap Metals who told a responding deputy that the check was a fake.

The sheriff’s department believe that a subject identified as Michael Dennison attempted to cash the same check at Wal-Mart earlier the same day.

The incident was turned over to an investigator.
